Empowering women + Gender-expansive musicians to gain traction in the audio production & engineering fields

Introducing project tractioN

Overview

Project Traction is a 501 (c)(3) mentorship program created to provide women and gender-expansive musicians with the tools and knowledge to become lifelong producers. Participants work alongside Jim Eno, veteran producer, engineer, and GRAMMY®-Nominated drummer of Spoon, to hone their skillset by co-producing a song for an artist of their choice.

THE PROBLEm

Numerous studies have shown that the representation of women in the producing and engineering fields in the US is less than 10%. In 2024, women held only 5.9% of producing credits on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Chart, down from 6.4% in 2023. Of the 14 women producers in 2024, only two were women of color.

HOW PROJECT TRACTION IS CLOSING THE GENDER GAP

Project Traction is committed to changing these statistics by offering participants the chance to work alongside industry professionals and gain real-world experience in a professional studio setting. Each participant co-produces a song with Jim Eno, receiving personalized guidance to develop their technical and creative skills. The program also fosters a supportive community where participants can collaborate, network, and grow together.

Project Traction isn’t just about making music—it’s about reshaping the music industry. By bridging the gender gap in production and engineering, the program aims to inspire a new generation of producers who will champion equality and creativity in the field. Join us in redefining the future of music production, one track at a time.

“Having worked with so many incredibly talented women over my career, I was floored by the statistics. If it's 10% now, let's get it over 51%”
